Email to my friends
Although I miss all my friends in California, Washington is a wonderful place to live and work. Yes, it's rainy, but not non-stop. There are times of rain and brilliant sunlight at the same time - which makes for beautiful rainbows.
I am busy building my computer consulting business. My key clients in Washington include the Log Cabin Resort at Lake Crescent, Highmark Communications, and a few individuals. I recently placed an ad in the business section of the newspaper advertising my services.
I am also pursuing my music. I'm in the Choir for our church and I've been asked to start playing my Trumpet, which I've not done since College, so I'm a bit rusty. When I'm not in my home office working, I sneak out play on our property.
Earlier this year, my wife and I walked around our 4.5 acres looking for rocks to build a fire pit. I've moved the fire pit three times, looking for that perfect spot. (For the latest move, I had to move all the rocks on my own and could hardly move a muscle the next morning - so I think this new spot might be the final.)
For heat in our home, we have a wood burning stove. We have enough wood in our wood shed to last another several months. On days that it's not raining, we have been digging out brush (for burning later on) and rescuing downed wood. The wood is pretty soggy after laying on the ground, so we move it to one of our "out buildings" for drying.
Next Spring, our neighbor who owns a tractor, is going to come over and help us pull out all the large cedar and fir trees that are downed, which we will then cut and let cure for burning later. In my free time (!) I am setting up my shop in our RV Barn (a huge 40' x 20' enclosed structure, except for the front doors).
Future plans include making Alex a loft bed and installing additional shelves in our closets and laundry room. However, building the business is the first priority, so these projects will need to wait a while. Alex, our 8 year old son loves his new life here in Washington. Although there are not too many neighbors nearby, he'd still rather live in the country-side here in Joyce, WA instead of in the city.
Alex is involved in the Boy Scouts. They do a lot of activities and once a month they have a "pack" activity with all the age groups together. Alex also attends the Awana Program at Church. He has a great time and lots of school friends attend as well.
My wife is currently volunteering with the Crescent Booster Club for Alex's school. She bakes for fundraisers, helps out with school projects, and assists in the classroom once a week. She is also the "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Soup Labels" coordinator for the school. Once a week, she also serves as the librarian for the 3rd and 4th graders.
