Ask Juan - Question and Answer

Editing an MS Word Dictionary

Question:
How do I delete an accidentally added word from the Word dictionary?

Answer:
MS Word uses a standard dictionary to spell the language of choice. In addition, one can add words that do not exist for Spell Check to use. These newly added words get added into a file called CUSTOM.DIC. How to delete them, you ask?

Edit the custom dictionary.

  • Click on tools
  • Click on options
  • Click on spelling & grammar
  • Click on dictionaries
  • Click on edit
  • Read the message carefully.
  • Click OK
  • Edit the word list. Make sure you have one word per line.
  • Save and close the file.
  • Re-activate the spell check as you type option.

That was simple wasn't it?
